Overview

The Jomsom Mustang Trek is a captivating journey through the rugged landscapes of the Mustang region in Nepal. This trek offers breathtaking views, rich cultural experiences, and a chance to explore ancient villages and monasteries.

Duration

The Jomsom Mustang Trek typically takes 12 to 14 days to complete. This duration includes acclimatization, travel to and from Jomsom, and time to explore the beautiful Mustang region.

Means of Transportation

Rented Motorbikes:

Motorbikes can be rented for those who wish to explore the region with more flexibility and speed.

Flights:

The trek involves flights from Kathmandu to Pokhara, and from Pokhara to Jomsom. These flights provide stunning aerial views of the Himalayas.

The main mode of transportation during the trek is walking. Be prepared for various terrains, including steep ascents and descents.

Jeeps or other vehicles can be used for certain parts of the journey, particularly in more accessible areas.

Requirements for the Trek

Permits:

1.) Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP)

2.) Trekkers' Information Management System (TIMS) Card

Physical Fitness:

A good level of physical fitness is required due to the challenging nature of the trek. Regular exercise and some prior trekking experience are recommended.

Gear and Equipment:

1.) Trekking Boots

2.) Warm clothing (jackets, thermal wear, hats, gloves)

6.) First-Aid kit

7.) Sunglasses and sunscreen

Travel Insurance:

Best season to trek

The best time for the Jomsom Mustang Trek is during the pre-monsoon (March to early June) and post-monsoon (September to November) seasons. During these times, the weather is generally clear, offering the best views and a comfortable trekking experience.

Itinerary

Day 1-2: Arrival in Kathmandu and preparation

1.) Arrive in Kathmandu.

2.) Spend time exploring the city and preparing for the trek.

Day 3: Flight from Kathmandu to Pokhara

1.) Take a scenic flight to Pokhara.

2.) Overnight stay in Pokhara.

Day 4: Flight from Pokhara to Jomsom and trek to Kagbeni

1.) Early morning flight to Jomsom.

2.) Begin trekking to Kagbeni.

Day 5-12: Trekking through the Mustang region

1.) Trek through Kagbeni, Chele, Syanbochen, Ghaymi, Charang, and Lo Manthang.

2.) Explore ancient monasteries, caves, and traditional villages.

3.) Experience the unique culture of the Mustang region.

Day 13: Trek back to Jomsom

1.) Retrace your steps back to Jomsom

Day 14: Flight from Jomsom to Pokhara and return to Kathmandu

1.) Fly back to Pokhara

2.) Connect to a flight to Kathmandu.
